New fume removal methods using MKD and MKKD systems require ecologically sound support structures. A common feature of fume removal systems made of double-jacket, acid-resistant steel fittings is that the parts used are of a ready-made shape and cannot be modified using present assembly methods such as disc cutting, oxy-acetylene blowpipe operations and electric welding. This requires that all considerations for compatability with the existing structures must be made during the design stage of each project.

Free-standing support structures are made when it is possible to use a rod-type free-standing design against an existing building or other structure. When this is possible the design process of the supporting structure and its foundation is minimized.

Supporting structures are designed for the attachment of MKD or MKKD system parts to an intermediary structure that is fixed to an existing building. In this case, the need to make a foundation is eliminated. This usually results in a substantial reduction of the material needed to build the support structure.
